Best Of 2014 – #16

Mercys WellRolling along with the best of 2014.  Today, we take a look at the album and recorded song ranked 16th among the best of the year.

Speaking of Today, that happens to be the title of the album coming in at #16 on the annual count down.  Mercy’s Well got the talents of Donna King to produce another of their recordings.  I would classify Today as the most Southern Gospel friendly album since their songbook series.

There is still enough progressive moments on the album to not make it 100% traditional but it doesn’t cross too far a line that traditional Southern Gospel listeners would not enjoy this recording.  I would go as far to say this is the best album in Mercy’s Well entire discography.

Personal favorites from this recording include:  “I’ll Trade This Valley For A Mountain”; “Deliver Me Through”; “That’s Who I’m Giving My Heart”; “The Gospel Of The Second Chance”; “Today” and “Come As We Are”.

DunawaysThe Dunaways had a great 2014 with the release of Church In The Kitchen.  They picked up quite a few nominations in the 1st annual Southern Gospel Views from the Back Row honors as a result of the album.

There was one song in particular that I kept going back to more than any others in the many listens to this album.  Ronny Stoots penned the country flavored, “Reassure Me”.  Featured vocalist Kanah absolutely sells the country-style of this tune.

While Church In The Kitchen had many worthy songs of landing in this list, “Reassure Me” stood out above the rest to rank 16th among the best recorded songs for all of 2014.

Here is an audio clip of “Reassure Me”.  Enjoy!
