‘Live’ Music Moment Of The Week:

  • Country music legend, George Jones, passed away a few days ago at the age of 81.  In memory of this legend, I found a YouTube clip, published by greatmusic1980, of Jones performing “Me And Jesus” with another country legend, Reba McEntire.

Smack Down!! – “Sky Full Of Angels”

This week’s smack down feature highlights a #1 Southern Gospel song that was originally recorded by a country music artist.  “Sky Full Of Angels” (written by Burton Collins, Clay Mills and Lisa Stewart) was recorded by country artist Reba McEntire on her 2003 recording Room To Breathe.

While not a single for Reba, this is one of those songs that you normally find at the end of a country album.  Reba will take the first verse and chorus.

Southern Gospel vocalist Taranda Greene decided to record this song on her second solo album, A Thing Called Love.  With a little background vocal help from Gold City, this song became a #1 hit on the Singing News Southern Gospel chart.  I believe this was the only time in chart history that a female solo artist had a #1 hit.

Taranda will take the second verse and chorus.  Country meets Southern Gospel in this week’s smack down.  Take a listen.
