Best Of 2016: #8

ball-brothersCan you believe we are one week out until Christmas day?  This rare Sunday post continues the annual countdown of Southern Gospel’s best.

Readers of this blog know I give artists a hard time when they create albums filled with previously recorded music.  The Ball Brothers had the rare exception in 2016 with their album release; Dynamic.

The recording has no less than nine previously recorded songs, but the Ball Brothers take these songs and make them all sound nearly brand new.  The vocal harmony work on Dynamic is unmatched.

The (5) Best Songs From The Album:  (1) “Jesus Cares For Me”, (2) “Mercy Tree”, (3) “I Shall Know Him”, (4) “Hey Mama” and (5) “Let Your Light Shine”.

wisecarversThe first new Southern Gospel album I listened to/reviewed in 2016 was the Wisecarvers, Armor.  The album ranked 11th among the best album releases of the year.

The first new song that blew up my musical playlists in 2016 was track #3 on Armor; “Just To Save Me”.  This song remained among the best songs recorded in 2016.

When the list was finally being compiled, the Chase Wisecarver penned, “Just To Save Me” ranked 8th among the best recorded Southern Gospel songs of the year.
