I hope you’ve enjoyed this new series as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to you. I like to look back at past years and see prior hit songs from many different musical genres. Billboard Magazine has compiled charts that date back to the 1950’s.
The only historical Southern Gospel chart is the Singing News. Since they choose to not provide historical chart information, I thought this series might be a small glimpse at prior Southern Gospel hit songs.
This week’s top ten back then selection goes back 29 years to October 1986. The song that landed at #2 on October’s chart that year was Gold City’s, “Who But God”. Penned by Ronny Hinson and Mike Payne, “Who But God” was found on the group’s 1985 recording, Sing With The Angels.
By this point in their career, Gold City had already landed two #1 songs. Here is a YouTube clip highlighting the #2 song from October 1986; “Who But God”.
