Best Of 2013 – #10

McGlameryThe best of 2013 continues today with the top 10 Southern Gospel albums/recorded songs of the year.  We kick off the top ten with the first of three solo albums.  I don’t know of any other year in Southern Gospel music where three solo albums were counted among the ten best.

The first of the three comes from Signature Sound lead vocalist Devin McGlamery.  This was Devin’s first attempt at a solo recording.  Love Is A Verb brought listeners great Southern Gospel quartet songs arranged/recorded expertly for Devin’s strong lead vocal.

Devin didn’t need to stray from his quartet roots to record an edgy, out of the box type solo recording.  Instead he kept the songs at a place they could easily be recorded by any Southern Gospel quartet.

Devin used several of the biggest songwriters in the industry for selections on Love Is A Verb.

Personal favorites from this recording include:  “From My Rags To His Riches”, “As Long As You Will Walk With Me”, “That’s Why”, “In The Depths Of The Sea”, “Up Above My Head” and “Love Is A Verb”.

WisecarversA couple of days ago I offered one of the best surprises of 2013 by naming the Wisecarvers, Journey, #11 among the best Southern Gospel albums released in 2013.

The song I found on the radio that gave me a reason to listen to the album finds a home at #10 among the best recorded songs of the year.  “Turn Back Time” happens to be track #2 on the album Journey.

The song was penned by group members Chase, Dustin and Kaila Wisecarver.  The song paints a poignant picture that everyone lives at some point in their lives, the notion of turning back time to change things we wish we’d done different.

Here is a sound clip of the Wisecarvers singing the #10 top recorded song of 2013, “Turn Back Time”.  Enjoy!
