Honoring the best Southern Gospel songs ever written is something I enjoy doing. I have mentioned many times before that it is all about the song. Artists come and go, but the song remains. This week I wanted to induct the first composition from Rusty Goodman.
As a member of the Happy Goodmans, Rusty penned many of the group’s hit songs over the course of their career. While “Who Am I” gets sung and recorded more these days, it is “Had It Not Been” that I consider to be one of Rusty Goodman’s finest songs.
Rusty’s smooth baritone voice delivered this song with passion. The Southern Gospel Music Association inducted Rusty in to the Southern Gospel Hall of Fame in 1997. Listen to a montage of artists honor this week’s inductee in to the Southern Gospel song hall of fame; Rusty Goodman’s “Had It Not Been”.
