Posted: May 3, 2012 by Steve Eaton in The Definitive

After covering the year 2000 and 1995, I figured why not lose another five years and look at the best Southern Gospel albums released in the year 1990.  The start of this decade saw the dominance of Gold City.  They won the group of the year along with all the individual vocal awards in 1990. The Cathedrals picked up album of the year while the Hoppers began their rise to the top in 1990 by winning song of the year for “Here I Am”.  1990 also saw the break through of groups like the McGruders, Wilburns, Reinhardts and Mullins.

The top 20 albums for the year 1990 are as follows:

  1. Come Fly… – McGruders (Sonlite)
  2. Windows Of Home – Gold City (RiverSong)
  3. Alabama Lightning – Wilburns (MorningStar)
  4. Love Will – Talleys (Word)
