As Christians around the world celebrate the Easter holiday and remember the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the Cross, I want to offer some music to coincide with this Resurrection season. Over the next three days I will offer a montage of Southern Gospel music. On this Good Friday, we celebrate the Cross and the atonement of sin by our Savior.
Thanks for putting this together. I enjoyed the variety of songs and artists chosen, many of whom I hadn’t heard before.
“On My Cross” was originally an FFH song, but I don’t even need to hear the original to know that Mercy’s Well sings it better.
You’re Welcome. There are so many wonderful songs in Southern Gospel that revolve around the Easter message. The ones used in this montage are as follows.
1. “Day Three” – Lordsong
2. “Three Rugged Crosses” – Freemans
3. “His Blood No Longer Leaves A Stain” – Greenes
4. “It’s Called Calvary” – Hoppers
5. “Jesus Died For Me” – Dove Brothers
6. “Death Could Not Hold Him” – Wilburns
7. “On My Cross” – Mercy’s Well
8. “Something’s Happening” – Mercy’s Mark Quartet
9. “Thorns Crowned The Rose” – Ruppes
I wondered who was singing that last one! It sounded a little like the Isaacs, except different.
