The time has come to take a look at the best of 2011 in Southern Gospel music. This month will count down the top 20 albums and top 20 recorded songs of 2011. Let’s get started.
Coming in at #20 among the best albums of 2011 is More Than Enough by the Whisnants. This family has been releasing quality Southern Gospel music over the course of the last 25 years. The Whisnants are ranked among the top trio’s in the industry receiving multiple trio of the year nominations over the course of the last decade.
The group is also consistent hit makers in terms of selecting the perfect songs for their style. Anchored by several more hits in the making, More Than Enough was strong enough to land at #20 among the best albums of 2011.
Personal favorites from this recording include: ”He’s Living Today”, “I Will Glory In The Cross”, “I’ll Trust The Potter’s Hands”, “God Settled It All” and “Weapon Of Prayer”.
Selecting the top 20 recorded songs for 2011 consisted of ranking each song on all 50 albums on a scale of 1 to 10. I then sorted all songs by rank from highest to lowest and the list of 20 was created.
Of all the songs recorded in 2011, the Roy Knight Singers land at #20 with “God’s Great”. Penned by songwriting legend Sandy Knight, this mid tempo number talks of God’s goodness. Built around that concept is a nice vocal arrangement that highlights the family harmony of the Roy Knight Singers.
A family group that has been in the industry for many years, but are still new to many listeners; the song is found on the group’s 2011 release Staying The Course. A clip of “God’s Great” is provided.
The countdown continues tomorrow with #19.
