This week’s smack down brings a song written by Larry Gatlin, “Healin’ Stream”. Originally recorded by the Kingsmen on their 1992 recording, Singing In The Sun Live, bass singer Ray Reese takes the lead on the song. On the live recording, at the beginning of the song, Ray sets up the song by telling a story about a healing that occurred in his own life. This mid-tempo song doesn’t get flashy, is not over sung nor does it need to be. The message of the song speaks for itself. The Kingsmen will take the first verse and chorus.
The Isaacs covered this song on the Naturally recording from last year. Sonya takes the lead on both verses of the song. The Isaacs arrangement is similar to the Kingsmen. Harmony is the first word that comes to mind when talking about the Isaacs. Their performance of this song is no exception. The Isaacs will take the second verse and chorus.
I know Larry Gatlin sang this song on a Homecoming Series video several years ago. So who takes the smack down title this week. Kingsmen? Isaacs?
